New Year's Eve Parties - Post your pictures!

Posted by Really Big Al, Jan 1.

I hope everyone had a safe and sound New Year's Eve celebration.  Now that we made it into 2018, how about sharing some of your best pictures from your last day of 2017?  Go on.  We won't tell your spouse....

I'll start this off, since I just so happened to have attended a New Year's Eve party with my spouse, Sandra.  She was the designated driver and I was able to try several wines and finally two sparkling wines.

This party was a small affair, with four couples in attendance.  Our hosts had our last blind wine tasting party at their house, and it's a nice setting.  We were served a chicken dish and there were lots of appetizers, such as charcutterie.  We started on the wines first of course; Sandra and I brought our 40th anniversary Octagon that we picked up in the Charlottesville area of Virginia last year.  Our friend Kathleen brought a Denner Syrah and I think that one was the best of the reds.  Kathleen also brought a Bordeaux wine that was decent.  Both the Octagon and the Bordeaux should have gone into decanters but they were consumed quickly.

We all brought over games to play, and the one chosen was called 'Catch Phrase'; we played it all night and you can see we were having lots of fun with it.  Soon it was time to open the sparkling wines, one a Prosecco and the one we brought - a rose from England.  Both were good but I really liked the rose.  After ringing in the new year, it was time to collect our stuff and head home.  A very enjoyable evening.

Sorry, Al, no pics.

It was a fun, albeit quiet, day for us.  A racing friend came over in the afternoon and he filled us in on the latest happenings in his world.  On Wednesday he will be heading to FL for the Roar Before the 24.  Wine-wise, I enjoyed the 2016 Bedrock Old VIne Zin.  I was quite surprised when Ryan switched over from Lagunitas to the Bedrock.  He left by 9:00, and I was in bed by 10:00.

Best wishes to all for a great 2018.

Happy New Year fellow Snoothers!

Hope everyone is feeling well today.

We had our annual NYE party with a crowd of about 25 showing up.  The party ended slightly earlier than normal around 1am which gave us time to do some preliminary cleanup before crashing.

We had a couple close friends over for a pre-party dinner, standing rib roast, twice baked mashed potatoes, roasted broccoli, salad and some homemade bread. I popped these two cabs which were quite excellent.

Out and about in Tokyo on the eve-into-morning with a continually morphing group of largely non-Japanese friends and acquaintances. Multiple fleshpots visited, many different beverages consumed, including at least a half-dozen different bottlings of good champers. NO photos allowed (I'd be gang-tackled, for sure), and re-engaged with some old friendships. Thought I was too old for such tom-foolery, but guess not. Surprisingly fresh on the first though my old cat was happy I stayed home for a whole day.

Good times I see.  I still need to find a Zinfandel bottle in Sandra's wine racks; I've been waiting for her to put away our latest allocations but perhaps I should just march down there and grab one.

Nice cabs V V.  I love vertical tastings.  Was either one much better than the other?

DM - I think I know what you mean regarding fleshpots.  I hope you wore protection.
