NJ Wine Festival

Posted by premiercollection, Oct 19, 2011.

This past weekend in Morristown, NJ we attended the NJ wines festival.  By my count there were 19 wineries in attendance, each with its' own tasting tent.  Rather than giving kudos to any particular winery I would rather congratulate the grape varietals that gave a good showing.  Syrah/Shiraz, their nomenclature depending on the winery, was a pretty safe bet on the red side.  Chardonnay carried the day for us on the whites.  There was a plethora of varietals from very dry to very sweet available for sampling.  There were some suprises on the day; a Barbera and an ice wine made an impression, but in general the wines were "vin de table".  The enthusiasm of the owners, wine makers and staff were more on the "Grand Cru" level.  Based on that we feel NJ has some exceptional wines in it's future.  See you next year!
