No easy and obvious access to prices on wine pages?

Posted by Rodolphe Boulanger, Dec 23, 2008.

To illustrate this, let's say I am looking for a wine, the Latour 2005 (incidently, the WSJ's wine of the year).

The search results page ( gives me a listing of search results with the SnoothRank and price prominently displayed.

If I click on the compare button, I get merchant listings including prices:

However, if I click on the wine because I want to read some reviews, I am taken to the wine's page ( which has notes, reviews, review history, similar wines, etc but NO PRICING INFORMATION. In fact... if not for the tiny text "compare and buy" below the bottle image, there would be no way to continue onwards to purchase this wine without hitting the back button and going back through the search results page.

You know, I never really noticed that. I think at one point before the reorganization that the price was there on individual wine page.

Mark? Philip? Is this an oversight or intentionally done?

I'm not sure what you mean. The price is right there!

I'm kidding -- I just put the price back. We moved to the tabbed details/buy page design which should make it more clear what's going on when a new user is inside the site. The price disappearance was definitely an oversight. Thanks for pointing it out.

How about a compare button below that snazzy price?

She canna take much more, Captain!

OK, im confused - this is post redesign? The buy page now has the price on it (recently put back)and we have the new tabbed design - so there's the tab that says "compare prices and buy".

Is that enough, or does there need to be a "buy" button as well?

Everything looks good to me now.

Have a quick play with it, as we changed the page layout today - now there are 2 tabs - one for content the other for prices. Does that change the original question, or was that written in response to the changes?

The tab system is a big improvement.
However, the text labels on the tabs are tiny.
Also - is there a reason for each tabs width? Is there are 3rd tab in the pipeline? Otherwise, you could increase the size of the font and make the tabs wider.

We could have a third tab of user submitted photos of us drinking that wine?

I dont think there's a third tab in the works for the time being, so I'll show this to Mike with respect to font size.
