Secret Santa 2015

Posted by Really Big Al, Oct 6, 2015.

Secret Santa 2015 was a success!  We eventually figured out who the senders and recipients were based on past drinking habits and assorted sleuthing.  Some bottles were consumed quickly but others are in storage awaiting the right moment to enjoy them.  Thanks to everyone for participating.  Final pairings are listed below:

JONDERRY - received bottle from Richard Foxall

OUTTHERE - received bottle from NAPAGIRL

REALLY BIG AL - received bottle from DVOGLER

GREGT - received bottle from MJET

The reindeer are still on vacation but now would probably be a good time to find interested parties and get a roster filled.

I think I was the one elected to run the process this year.  Let me know if I am mistaken.  Of course I am in.  It was a lot of fun last year.

"I think I was the one elected to run the process this year.  Let me know if I am mistaken."

Be careful what you ask for! ;-)

Have at it big guy. Communication and organization are key to a successful SS.

ROBOTICWINO, check this link to see how it played out last year. I'll PM you the rules. http://www.snooth.com/talk/topic/its-getting-to-be-that-time-of-year-again-whos-game-for-secret-santa-2014/

Ok, it's official that we are having a Secret Santa bottle exchange for 2015 and I will be the organizer.  The general idea for anyone new to this is that we are randomly given a name of a participant and we ship a bottle ($40 minimum value) to that person; in this case it must be shipped by Monday, 16 November 2015.  We want to have bottle in hand by Thanksgiving (26 November 2015).  All communications regarding names / addresses / tracking numbers / etc. will be sent to me (Really Big Al) via private message.  Part of the fun is for your recipient to figure out who sent the bottle to them.  It is highly probable that you won't receive your bottle from the same person you shipped a gift bottle to, but it could happen.

So for the next few weeks, I ask people to post to this topic and state if you are interested in participating in Secret Santa 2015.  I'll keep the original post in this topic updated with current information.

Wait a minute! Secret Santa (Christmas) but it has to be in hand for Thanksgiving?

WTH?

Anyhow, I'm in.

I want mine for Canadian Thanksgiving (this coming Monday).

I'm ALL IN.  Al, try to give me someone who is in or nearby a larger urban center.  My only option (unless you can randomly give me someone by Monday....I'll be in Seattle and can have something shipped from there) is to have something purchased from a shop nearby to my recipient and they can go get it.  Also, my Santa will need to ship to my in-laws in Seattle and they'll bring it to me as they're coming to Victoria for Christmas.  I know...I'm SO high-maintenance!

DV - That option of purchasing something from a shop nearby your recipient and having them pick it up sounds like your best choice.  At least the person sending you a bottle can ship it to Seattle.  I think it can work.

GT - Those are the rules.  I think the benefit is to avoid the holiday rush and with it the long lines and shipping delays.  Originally we were thinking about doing this in the summer time frame......

Darren,

You can purchase from any online retailer in the States such as KLWines, HDH Retail, Chambers Street etc and have it delivered to anywhere. No need for them to live in a large urban area. This doesn't have to be difficult. BTW, the names are drawn at random.

Ah great then.  Thanks OT.  I thought some states don't allow wine shipment.

DM - Everyone knew who the Secret Santa organizer was last year.  What we don't know is the person sending us the special bottle of wine.

TS3 - I think you are asking to sign up for being a participant in the Secret Santa bottle exchange.  However, we need to know how serious you are and that involves posting on this forum for the next few weeks.  We need to ensure that the recipient of your gift bottle will actually receive it.  So start posting and hopefully you will achieve enough activity to put your name in the pot.  I'll watch your activity over the next two weeks.

Such tact Al. TS3, I hope you can understand his reservation. Join in, become part of the party here. We'd love to have you participate in the exchange. Help us out by participating in the conversations. Where are you from, what do you enjoy drinking?

OT,

K&L can only ship to 18 states.  HDH says the same.  You might care to check your facts.

They were suggestions DV. That's a 36% chance of success!

Seriously, if it comes down to someone in a State you cannot ship wine to then ship it to me and I'll forward it to them and simply conceal the contents. This is Christmas, no rocket science needed!
