Superbowl 51 - Wine or Beer?

Posted by Really Big Al, Jan 31, 2017.

I was wondering how many forum members plan to watch the Superbowl this Sunday (05 Feb 2017) and of that subset, will anyone be drinking beer instead of wine?

Scotch and/or wine! More importantly I'm not sure who I'm going to be cheering for!!!

MJET/RBA - I like the Pats for sports betting, but I'm rooting for the Falcons.

I'll be rooting for Atlanta - also known as rooting for the Patriots to lose!

I'm thinking of heading to my favorite taproom to watch some of the game and will probably open some wine too!

Good question Al...I've opined in the past that college football screams beer, while pro football is more wine friendly. It's my grandma's 90th this year, a bunch of family will be celebrating...hopefully we're good enough to do it all. Bourbon, Wine, Beer, etc.

Sports Bar, early Monday morning, at least a half day off from work maybe full. We reprobates will still probably be having some craft brews with breakfast. Not sure why but usually don't feel like wine that time of day...  ;-(

Sadly day off not an option

Too many Australian based US companies with sign-off dates that by that Monday

Interesting viewpoints; I hadn't considered the aspect of needing to get up early the next day, but we too need to head out at 0900 to do our yoga class.  I'm thinking that it should be quality over quantity.

Perhaps the pairing of certain foods will lead us down the proper path?  I suggested to Sandra yesterday that I don't want to shovel down a whole bunch of snack foods, but she does want me to make nachos.  I think celery and carrots with hummus, perhaps with some olives, can pair nicely with a medium-bodied red wine.  The nachos scream craft beer, and I can hear it now, coming from the refrigerator.

The winner of the game isn't as important as it must not be a blow-out.  A close game, down to the last minute, will be the best.  Is anyone else watching the game on a 75" TV with Klipsch surround sound?  Just asking....

Well, it looks like the Patriots are favored to win the big game.  Is anyone going to open a special scotch or other spirit?

Not here. Just wine. I don't really drink any other alcohol.

RBA - Some sparkling wine might go nice with those nachos!

Lucha - Yes.  I should put a bottle in the fridge now before I forget.  Thanks.

We'll be making our world famous Super Bowl chili and that begs for either of the two choices in your opening. After reading one of Emarks entries in another thread I'm leaning more toward a bottle of Ridge Lytton Springs zin.

Not a fan of the Falcons as they are a big rival to my Panthers, also I'm a U of Mich grad, so have there's a connection with Tom Brady.

Both? I'll be traveling over the hill to St Helena to partake in the festivities. I'll be grilling some skirt steak for simple tacos on soft corn tortillas with a topping of chunky avocado salsa verde. Just a killer combination.

Should be lots of beer and wines among other libations. Al, what's special about Jack, Hennessy and Fireball?

As far as betting goes NE has never covered when being favored in the Super Bowl. I'll take the Falcons if anyone is willing to give me the 4pts. I'll put up a good bottle of wine.

I've got no dog in this fight although Brady and I went to the same High School. I'd be happy with either team wining.

OT - Nothing special about those spirits.  That was a picture I found on the web.  I have plenty of beer, scotch, bourbon and of course, wine in the house so we're all set for Sunday.  I even put a sparkling wine in the fridge for those nachos!

Next time take a picture of what you have special that you will enjoy! Stock internet photos are so impersonal.

Biere, bien sur. Pas Budweiser, cependant...
