Washington Wines & B&B's

Posted by ZerbaFan, Aug 26, 2013.

We are fortunate enough to live a short distance from the Willamette Valley and the Dundee Hills of Oregon.  We are lovers of many varieties of red grapes and have found that we find ourselves drawn to wines that are from the Columbia Valley in Washington.  We are currently members of Zerba and Willamette Valley Vineyards although we prefer the Griffin Creek wines rather than the Pinots from Willamette Valley.  We are looking forward to spending 3 nights at the Cameo Heights Mansion this week on our trek to visit Zerba in Milton Freewater.  The place looks amazing and we hear that The Vine which is onsite at the Mansion has an great chef that produces some of the best food and wine pairings in all of  the Walla Walla area.  Open Table has named The Vine as one of the 10 best in all of Washington and Trip Advisor lists Cameo Heights Mansion as one of the 10 best B&B's in the United States.  If anyone out there has been to the Mansion, please let us know about your experience.  We would also love to hear about any tasting rooms you recommend in the area.

I have just recently gotten back from a short wine tasting trip to McMinnville (including Willamette Valley VIneyards).

I did go to Walla Walla some time ago but haven't spent any time in Milton-Freewater. I'd love to hear about your experiences, but unfortunately I haven't gone to any of the places you asked about. (Please come back and let us know, so I can make my travel plans accordingly next time!)

We did both go to a steakhouse in Pendleton..we happened to go there when they were offering fantastic discounts on every bottle on their wine list. We ended up being able to purchase a bottle of Abeja cabernet sauv for far less than I would ever see it anywhere else. That place ended up standing out in my memory as a nice experience. They also sell nice steak knives. I'm planning on visiting Abeja when we go down there again. I also want to do a tasting at E'cole 41.

I do remember a drive in outdoor movie screen in a small town south of Walla Walla (driving towards Pendleton)- that was a huge draw/novelty for us.

Sorry I don't have anything more specific.

(Side story: We also crossed the border to return the canada with a large bag of the famed Walla Walla onions. Drving around with a large bag of onions on vacation seemed like it would be worth the effort upon our return home. Imagine my surprise when I spotted walla walla onions on sale in the front of our local Wal Mart upon my return. So don't do the onions. It's just not worth it).  :)
