  • I’m often asked by novice wine drinkers if Chianti Classico is worth its ... ... and known for producing Sangiovese-based wines in volume, but it’s important to remember that Chianti has eight distinct sub-zones. Chianti Classico is one of them, and arguably the most important. After tasting hundreds of bottles of Chianti Classico, Chianti Cl... Read More

  • Corsican wine Some internet research indicates that the niellucciu grape ... ... to, if not the same as, sangiovese.  Also, I learned that Corsican winemaking is heavily influenced by the Italians.  I believe both opinions.  This one is almost like a "soft Chianti."  Lots of bright red berry fruit, but not quite as tart,  A fairly light-bodie... • Castello di Radda Chianti Classico 2014

    Snoothrank:

Fresh and clear aromas of cherry and strawberry on the nose with a touch of spice. This is easy drinking on the palate with fresh ripe cherry notes and some red currant, and a soft spice running throughout bolstered by good acidity and a bit of tannin on the finish. 89 pts Read More

  • Ceppeto Chianti Classico 2013

  • Querciavalle Chianti Classico 2012

  • Gabbiano Chianti Classico 2014

    Snoothrank:

From all angles this is classic Chianti Classico. The floral cherry with soft earth on the nose opens for a textured palate of fresh cherry, raspberry fruit and a pleasant earth, fresh spice and an earthen finish. Not daring in any way but pleasant, approachable and a safe bet. Read More

  • I am partial to Italian wines. It must be a cultural thing, as my parents were immigrants. Last week, I was introduced to Il Poggio Sangiovese Rubicone 2008 at my Italian conversation group. It was love at first sip ... I bought a case. Life is too short ... drink fine wines which can be bought a good price. There are many treaures out there wa...

  • The fact that there is nary a bottle of Canaletto, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo to be bought anywhere, says it all. At around $10 a bottle, it probably deserves more than a 3 out of 5 rating but what do I know? I just like drinking it when I can get it.
