Sauvignon Blanc

(aka. Blanc Fume, Fume Blanc, Savagnin Musque)

Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California -- at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety -- and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. Sauvignon Blanc on Snooth

  • La Frenz Wits End Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2018

    Snoothrank:

The La Frenz SB is very light yellow colour with lime, lemon peel and fresh ... grass on the nose... very Sauvignon Blanc and variety sound. It tastes much like an Entre-deux-Mers in the same price range, with a bit more purity on the palate. Palate cleansing and pleasant on the finish. Well done. 8 Read More

  • Le Vieux Pin Sauvignon Blanc 2018

    Snoothrank:

A tongue-tingling, alarm clock for the palate is this electric Sauvignon Blanc from Le Vieux Pin. Gooseberry, lime and grass effuse from the glass which shows pale yellow. Entry is quite acidic - showing good possibility for a couple of years aging, although for certain fare (we had vegetable stir-fry), perfect now. A bit expensive, but a cut a... Read More

  • Oxford Landing SB (Marlborough NZ) was my introduction to this grape. Oxford Landing is a reasonable price for a surprisingly low % and an acceptable intro to this grape. However....
