I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/128953 for £17.50. Aloxe-Corton is an appellation created in 1938,although viticulture here goes back centuries,for red and white wines [although over 90% are red] from the commune of Aloxe-Corton and the neighbouring commune of Ladoix-Serrigny. The vineyards are located on the slopes of the Corton hill on the Cotes de Beaune in Burgundy.There are 13 Premier Cru vineyards and the three Grand Cru vineyards of Corton,Corton-Charlemagne and Charlemagne overlap although they have their own appellations. My bottle is only a village level wine from the small family concern of Domaine Rollin Pere et fils.It is made from grapes from three differeent plots and spent a year in oak barrels [25% new] I started the bottle last night with my steak supper.There is plenty of a cherry and redcurrant style fruit with some soft tannins but some structure and some subtlety and complexity.In short this is a lovely wine and a good match for the steak
Add winemaker's notesThe domaine was originally founded by a Raymond Rollin and his son Maurice started making and bottling their own wines back in 1955. It is now run by Maurice's son Remi and his son Simon with wife Cartoline.There are 14 hectares under vine spread over 5 communes and 14 appellations
