Arretxea Irouleguy 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in London's Walthamstow [www.forestwine.com] Irouleguy is an appellation created in 1990,although there has been viticulture here since at least the Romans, for red, rose and white wines from 9 communes around the village of that name. This is located in south-west France about 25 miles south-east of the town of Biaritz in the foothills of the Pyrenese close to the Spanish border. My bottle comes from a small organic producer in this area and consists of 66% tannat and 17% each of the two cabernets. I started the bottle last night with my supper of chicken stew. The wine has a nice dark colour and there is plenty of a fairly intense cherry and blackberry style fruit with a hint of spice and soft and smooth tannins. The wine is full bodied and well structured. In short I thought this a lovely red wine that would match many foods
