Atamisque Catalpa Assemblage 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

We are delighted with the new vintage of the premium Catalpa Assemblage blend. It marked step in quality from the Serbal equivalent. The difference is not just that the Serbal is unoaked and this wine has spent time in French oak, but the Catalpa is even better, with ripe, complex silky fruit flavours and a lovely aromatic lift on the finish. As we said of the previous vintage, those in the know are tipping Argentinian Cabernet Franc as the next big thing, and this new vintage shows the strides being made. The Assemblage is a 'Bordeaux-style blend' (Cabernet Franc 60%, Merlot 30% and 5% each of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon). It brings together all the warmth and body you would expect from Atamisque in a layered, complex and structured wine. Rich aromas of blackcurrant, touches of sweet toasty oak and eucalyptus with an elegant palate of black fruit intertwined with smooth oaky complexity. The tannins are beautifully integrated but still robust enough to stand up to roast beef on a Sunday afternoon; and this wine will improve gracefully with time in bottle.
