Bearboat is a wine based out of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California. The name plays on the theme of the Russian River - the bears, the symbol of Russia, are in a rowboat on the river. The principal winemaker is Raphaël Brisbois, an Alsatian who originally worked for several fine Champagne houses before coming to the states, where he worked for sparkling producers including Iron Horse. He began making still wines at Bearboat for Remy Cointreau in the mid 1990s. The wines are sourced from vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley and Sonoma, using cool-climate varietals best suited to the region’s growing conditions such as Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.  Read less

Pleasantly suprised by this inexpensive Russian River Pinot Noir. Very clean with nice finish.

nice inexpensive pinot. with pinots you get what you pay for and this is not a great wine. however, the label may be my favorite. two bears in a boat laughing. gets me every time. nice velvety start, good fruits but plays out after the bottle is open a bit. 2005 better than 2006 imo.

This is not a bad wine, it is just not a good wine. It proves once again what a difficult grape this is to work with, and even the Russian River is no guarantee of quality. There are better wines out there for half the price.

Wine Tasting NotesDark cherry. Cherry, raspberries, strawberries and chocolate. Red and black fruits; long, spicy finish.

Bearboat is aged in French oak for ten months. The wine has a beautiful cherry like color and has tastes of fresh strawberries and raspberries. The Bearboat Pinot Noir is a perfectly balanced red. It nicely accompanies lamb, beef and pork.

There's enough fruit in this simple, soda-like Pinot Noir to start an orchard. It has candied flavors of raspberries, red cherries, strawberries and cola, with oak contributing the usual caramel and vanilla. But it sure is tasty.

Nice and delicately structured in the mouth, an elegant wine with fine acidity and a silky finish. The classic Russian River flavors suggest cherries, cola, mocha and cinnamon spice.

A very nice Pinot, actually Bearboat's best yet, that shows the dry silkiness of a fine Russian River Pinot, and also some complex layers of flavor. Cherries, rhubarb, pomegranates, orange zest, herb tea, clove and pepper all mingle together, enlivened by crisp acidity. - S.H.A delicate style. Fragrant, with blackberry and black cherry fruit that has a touch of cola and sage. Drink now. 39,400 cases made. -JL
