Bernardus Winery Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands Pisoni Vineyard 2009

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Only the second bottling from the highly celebrated Pisoni Vineyard. Gary Pisoni is the iconic grower whose Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir has brought worldwide attention to the Santa Lucia Highlands. Planted with renowned “Pisoni clone”, this unique vineyard produces amazing Pinots which can rival the best red Burgundies. Only a select few receive fruit from Gary Pisoni and Bernardus is one of them. The 2009 shows beautiful fruit definition and concentration, promising excellent ageing potential. The grapes were hand sorted and put into three small fermenters, each with a different yeast, and hand punched two to three times each day in order to extract every bit of flavor. Once fermentation and pressing were complete, the wines were aged in French oak barrels for ten months and bottled in August, 2010. The Wine Advocate scored it 93 points saying "The 2009 Pinot Noir Pisoni is a richer, deeper wine endowed with considerable finesse. It shows gorgeous mid-palate fleshiness and tons of character, with a tendency towards the darker end of the fruit spectrum, all qualities that are hallmarks of this site, first planted in 1982. Menthol, licorice and spices wrap around the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017." Extremely Limited!

While tannic, this shows more generous and complex plum, cherry and raspberry fruit, making a much more intriguing drink than the Rosellas bottling. Drink now through 2020. -JL Wine Spectator. A Pinot Noir wine from California in USA. 2009 Bernardus Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard 750ml

Enormously ripe, as you'd expect from this famous vineyard. Explodes in red cherries, licorice, cola, anise and smoky sandalwood, so rich and deep and long in the finish. Plenty of racy acidity provides balance. You might want to give this Pinot a fe... Wine Enthusiast. A Pinot Noir wine from California in USA. 2009 Bernardus Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard 750ml
