Although the history of the city of Borja takes us back to the beginnings of the Paleolithic period, it wasn’t until the 4th century before Christ, in the heart of the Celtiberian period, when thanks to classical and numismatic written sources the name of this village came to light: Bursao. With the passing through Bursao of different civilizations like the Romans, Visigothic Hispania and the Muslims we have inherited architectural remains and above all, the natural inclination of its people towards agriculture and more particularly viniculture. Of equal importance was the implementation of artisanal techniques that today endure as living proof of the cultural richness of the former Bursao today known as Borja. During the I and II centuries, before our time, it used to mint bronze coins, ases and dividers as a symbol of its autonomy. On the obverse of the as we can see a celtiberian rider armed with a lance, riding on the writing of the name of the city in the native alphabet. The emblem adopted by the winery as a sign of identity. Read less

Bright violet, aromas of red stone fruits, orange peel and spice, with flavor notes of dried plums, red berries and cellar floor primed with alcohol. Unbalanced, disappointing effort from a consistent value producer.

Medium-bodied Garnacha with red cherry tastes. Mild tannins and a hint of spice and vanilla. I paid $6.95 recently. A great value.

This has become one of my go to wines. After trying the excellent 2007 last year, the 2008 doesn't disappoint. It's the same vineyard that makes the excellent Tres Picos 100% grenache. This one is 70% Grenache, 20% Shiraz and 10% Tempranillo. It's a young wine so a hair on the sweet side but it does eventually open up with nice raspberry undertones. Really good, especially at this price point.

Dark, opaque dark purple vail. Colored legs. Fruity nose, violets, bosc pear, rose leaf, back end of spice. Very well balanced, decent tannin. Fast finish. Paired with four different pizzas and held up wonderfully. 75% Grenache, 25% Tempranillo. Good bargin!

Very good wine, love this - dry and complex for a young pure Grenache with a metallic mineral twang - would never guess it had sold for $7kevin@lungwitzlaw.com at whole foods - learned about this at www.redwinebargains.com

Ripe cherries and green peppercorns on the nose join pomegranates along with the sweet flesh and tart skins of red plums on the palate making for a juicy mouthful of truly Spanish Garnacha. A quaffable red with immediate appeal.

Ruby-red. Exotic aromas of roasted fruit syrup, chocolate and a hint of prune. Dense and superripe in the mouth, with exotic fruit salad and plum flavors and a raisiny nuance. Finishes ripely tannic and persistent, with a flavor of plum tart. A big wine for the price.

Vivid purple color. Intensely floral scents of violet, rose, raspberry, blackberry and Asian spices. A step up in complexity from the Vintilde;a Borgia and Monte Oton, with an extra aromatic dimension and impressive, sweet berry character. The finish is bright, focused and way, way more persistent than a $9 wine should be.

Slightly more intense than the Vina Borgia (and priced $2 higher) is the 2005 Borsao, a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Tempranillo. This stainless steel-fermented, deep ruby-hued effort displays plenty of sweet black cherry, strawberry, and raspberry fruit, a hint of black currants, medium body, silky tannin, and wonderful ripeness. For $7, the word is "BUY!" Drink it over the next year.

Almost impossible to distinguish this nice and easy Garnacha from the winery's Monte Oton label (also rated 89). Open berry and jam aromas keep it together, while the saturated, sweet blackberry palate is living proof of Campo de Borja's sun and terroir. Ripe, deep and easy to enjoy.

This firm red delivers ripe black cherry and boysenberry fruit, backed by notes of smoke, mineral and herb. The tannins are well-integrated, and floral and smoke notes linger. Drink now through 2013.
