The Toro Denomination of Origin covers around 8,000 hectares of vineyards in the Zamora and Valladolid provinces. It is the last Spanish wine area to be bathed by the Duero River. With a soft, rolling landscape, this area has sandy-textured soil, excellent drainage conditions and an acceptable water retention capacity; rainfall is less than 400 mm annually, with around 3,000 effective sunshine hours. Its roots are anchored in loose, sandy soil that is well drained, maintaining the increasing number of vineyards where graft is not used until the present times. Other varietals in the areas are Garnacha, Malvasía and Verdejo, from which excellent whites and rosés are made. Read less
