As good as the Falletto is, the 2004 Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto takes things to another level entirely...essence of violets, tar, licorice, minerals and sweet dark fruit, with a profound expansiveness that saturates the palate. This big, imposing wine also remains superbly elegant and focused, with silky tannins that carry through to a long, satisfying finish. Bruno Giacosa:

The story starts in a simple way, with the native varietals of the Langa and Roero regions and vineyards cultivated with loving care. It continues with pure, meticulous vinification, with ageing in grand oak barrels and with unforgettable Reserves. But it also includes, naturally enough, the choice not to bottle those mediocre vintages deemed unworthy of vinification. Bruno’s art encompasses passion and clear judgement but, above all, the utmost respect for his product, its admirers and for the beautiful countryside where he and his family were born and raised. The Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery comprises twenty hectares of vineyards within the Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco areas. The vine growing and wine making processes are followed through with care from beginning to end, culminating with vinification and ageing within our cellars in Neive. Some of our wine is produced with grapes grown by those farmers who have always worked our winery and whose prestigious vineyards truly deserve the ‘Bruno Giacosa’ label. Read less

Thank you Mr .Fiertag for providing this Magnum. -The Bruno Giacosa Barolo le Rocche del Falletto Riserva (2000) did display DRC qualities on all scores. It was amazing as promised. and my first 100 point Barolo. Giacosa to boot. Viva Giacosa Wines.

Tre Bicchieri Rocche del Falletto appears a clean mid red in the glass and quickly offers up a memorable nose, clean, fruit overload with strawberries showing quickly with a floral and mineral aroma playing backup. The palate is so rich, opulent and light, this is a very feminine, balanced and delicate wine. A wine that benefits from decanting and changes from hour to hour, really complex and enjoyable experience. The finish is among the longest I can recall. For those who loves a structured and complex wine.

The 2004 Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto is off the charts. Sweet roses, menthol, tar, licorice and minerals come together in a sensual, elegant style that recalls Giacosa's legendary 1989 Riserva Collina Rionda, a wine many observers (this one included) place at the top of the hierarchy of all-time legendary Barolos. Ripe, sensual, and utterly spellbinding, the 2004 Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto offers superb elegance and pedigree. At this stage the wine remains surprisingly accessible. Readers will want to taste the 2004 Rocche as soon as possible as it will almost certainly head for a long period of dormancy in the near future. This magical Barolo will likely merit a perfect score in the future. The 2004 Rocche is the last wine Giacosa and former longtime oenologist Dante Scaglione produced together from start to finish and it is an appropriate bookend to a wonderful partnership that yielded so many profound wines. Fabulous purity of crushed fruit - strawberries and raspberries, with hints of fresh roses. Full-bodied, with an amazing concentration and a palate that goes on and on and on. Ultraripe tannins.
