Ninety miles south of San Francisco, the vineyards are at 2,200 ft. elevation. The heat of the season is mitigated by cooling sea breezes from Monterey Bay. Several varietals are grown, with Pinot Noir having the lion's share at roughly 70 % of production, followed by Chardonnay and Viognier at approximately 21 % and 9 % respectively. An entirely gravity-fed production facility, the new building is a testament to artisanal winemaking, with average yearly production nearing 30,000 cases of all varietals. Read less

Every wine at this winery was fantastic, and this particular one was exceptional. Upon leaving Morro Bay for our 4th of July vacation, my Wife did not close the trunk all the way. All of a sudden, the sound of broken glass is heard smashing behind our car. A full cooler and an 8-pack box of splits falls out. After returning to pick them up, not one of the bottles are broken, just two wine glasses from another winery had broken. If it wasn't for this stroke of luck, I couldn't write this storied review. Thank you Coleman coolers and packing dept. of Calera.

Central Coast, CaliforniaCalera Pinot Noir Central Coast is our newest red wine gem from California! Calera is a vision, and Calera's wines truly express the sense of place. Rather than follow the recommended path, Josh Jensen became a pioneer in search of the perfect spot on the globe to grow grapes. Even renowned wine critic Robert Parker is convinced, saying, "Calera is one of the most compelling Pinot Noir specialists of not only the New World, but of Planet Earth." Jeb Dunnuck, writing for Parker, rated this 2013 vintage 91 points: "It has a light ruby color to go with perfumed, spice-filled notes of red flowers, sweet cherries, rose petal and sassafras. Beautiful on the palate, with a light, airy feel, plenty of acidity and a great finish, this should represent a super value and drink well for 4-5 years." Need we say more?Calera Pinot Noir offers delightful bright aromas of pomegranate, sandalwood, juicy cherry and bramble. Seven different vineyard sources combine to create lively flavors of cranberry, French prune, briar and expressive red plum with a soft underpinning of oak. Deep flavors, firm tannins, wonderful fruit and a nice tartness make for a rich, lingering finish. The wine was aged without racking in mostly French oak barrels, 10% new, for eleven months. The vineyard lots were combined prior to bottling and the wine was bottled unfiltered.Enjoy Calera Pinot Noir Central Coast with roast pork, grilled salmon, ratatouille and aged cheeses.

A wonderful, full gentle bouquet of red plum, berries, rose petal and mineral accents lively flavors of blackberry, raspberry and sassy sour cherry. This wine offers great depth, spice, a hint of sweet oak and beautiful texture with very fine-grained tannins and a soft, round, easy drinking mouthfeel that lingers on leaving you wanting another taste.
