Tenuta Caparzo:
The “Caparzo” name seems to originate from Ca' Pazzo, as seen in several ancient maps. The vineyards, cellars and all wine-making equipment were developed towards the end of the 1960s, with progressive adaptation and constant up-dating of both the land and the cellars. Innovative cultivation systems and, in particular, several clones are still experimented today on the estates - extending over an area of 190

A Chianti look-alike from the excellent Caparzo winery, this 2012 Sangiovese is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot and Alicante. It wouldn’t appear there is any oak, although I can’t be sure of that, but the wine displays plenty of Italian inspired fruit with hints of tobacco leaf, red cherries, sweet strawberries, underbrush and loamy soil notes. Spicy, medium-bodied and complex, this wine should be drunk over the next year.

Round, with blackberry and black cherry flavors, this is a juicy red. There are firm tannins lurking beneath the surface, adding texture to the finish. Drink now through 2015.

Packaged in a screwcap bottle, Tuscan blend (85% Sangiovese with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Alicante) opens with notes of plush dark fruit, soft cherry jam and a pleasing point of savory spice. It is slightly sweet and very velvety on the finish.
