In 1868, Antonio Carpenè, founder of Italy’s first oenology school, began producing Prosecco using the Charmat method of fermentation in large vats instead of the bottle, which became the standard practice for quality Prosecco. The grapes are sourced from the steep hillsides of Conegliano, where Prosecco is given the prestigious DOCG designation. In addition to its range of fine Proseccos, Carpenè Malvolti also produces the “L’arte Spumantistica” range of sparkling wines from other grapes in a range of styles from dry to sweet whites and rosé.
