Dried and sour cherries and some dirty laundry on the nose. Good all around example of Chianti.

Licorice nose, good acidty makes this a food friendly wine. Some dusty tannins, but decent fruits too. Very dry overall, but balanced. Acidic finish

Impressive saturated ruby, extremely dark for Brunello. Brooding aromas of dark berry syrup and licorice; distinct hints of surmaturite. Then big, broad and extremely unevolved; highly concentrated but currently monolithic, and not really displaying its fruit. Finishes with big, chewy but ultimately rather fine tannins. Impressive in a modern style, but is this too solid for its own good?

This wine shows an incredible concentration of fruit, with loads of berries and spices on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins and lots of smoky character. Goes for a long time on the finish. Always a benchmark for the region. Best after 2005.

An incredibly complex and full-bodied wine with ripe, concentrated dark berry fruit and smoked meat flavors coupled with a finish that is seemingly endless.

Beginning in 1978, brothers John and Harry Mariani established 800 acres of vineyards on this Montalcino estate. It is the source of many wines, including two single-vineyard Brunellos. This blended Brunello, whose grapes come from eight different sites on the estate, is aged a minimum of two years in small oak barrels and larger casks. The quality of this red results in part from an excellent growing season in 1999 and the fruits of 20 years of research to determine the best clones for these vineyards.

Has fabulous aromas of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry. Full-bodied, with wonderfully integrated tannins, fresh mushrooms and milk chocolate. Chewy in the end. We will see if this is better than the 2001 with age. Best after 2010.

Banfiandrsquo;s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty, delicate offering laced with raspberries, flowers and sweet baking spices. Fine, silky tannins add to an overall impression of elegance as this mid-weight Brunello opens up in the glass. The wine is already quite open and accessible, and should continue to drink well for the better part of the next decade. This is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from Banfi in recent years. Anticipated maturity: 2010andndash;2020.
