Castello Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

The Chianti Classico Riserva comes from a selection of grapes from vineyards which are more suitable for long maturing. Vinified in steel with a maceration of about 20 days, and as a second passage, it is aged in smaller wooden barrels for about 18 months, to then rest for a minimum of 3 months in glass. Composition of the grapes: 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo and Colorino.

Castello di Monsanto:
Castello di Monsanto is one of the most respected estates in Tuscany and one of the top producers of traditional Chianti Classico Riserva. Located midway between Florence & Siena, the estate lies on the westernmost edge of the Chianti Classico zone, one of the best areas for Chianti. The estate itself is a landmark, with its distinctive hilltop castle.

Rich mineral complexity and barnyard aromas are fully in control on the nose - barely any fruit making its way through. On the palate this is juicy, firm and vibrant with zesty sour cherry, cranberry and strawberry fruit, a hint of herbal licorice and medicine notes and a pleasant earth on the finish. 91 pts

Rich red fruit with balancing acid and enough tannin for interest. My best ever Chianti.
