Chardonnay Pinot Noir Anna Codorniu Cava Rosé Brut Spain Cava NV

Winemaker's Notes:

This brut, which is both soft and fresh on the palate, displays the liveliness and femineity that its name suggests. It is the first time Chardonnay has been blended with cava’s classic grape trio and the result highlights the fresh floral and fruit aromas of the ageing process. Once 60% of the must has been extracted and filtered, the first fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 15º-18ºC for around 10 days. At the end of this process the must becomes wine. The obtained wine will ferment a second time in the bottle, distinctive feature to the 'Traditional Method '. It takes place in the interior of the cellars at a constant temperature of 12º-15ºC. The minimum time as established in the Cava Regulatory Council is 9 months for the ageing of a Cava. This particular Cava supersedes the required ageing period highlighting its fresh floral and fruit aromas.

Light yellow in color with small to medium bubbles. The nose shows some yeasty notes with pineapple, though overall pretty hollow. Medium sparkle on the palate with a dry finish. Creamy in the mouth with apple, yeast, and faint honey notes. Though overall this wine is a good value, it's still a bit boring. 3/5 [NR]

Simple, fruit forward nose. Nice bubbles, apple and berry flavors with a disappointingly short finish. Not great, but a nice metodo tradicional cava for a nice price when you're in the mood for something bubbly.

Light to medium-bodied. Citrus notes, particularly limes, accented by buttery notes and a hint of apples. Tart.

Made from 100% Pinot Noir, this cava shows refreshing cherry-red color. The bouquet is reminiscent of recently picked summer fruits - strawberries, raspberries, and black currants. A delicate and sustained mousse tops off this elegant and distinguished sparkler with freshness and vibrancy. This is a real bargain and it has become my first choice for quality and value. A perfect summer sparkler! Don't miss it - I thoroughly enjoyed it and I believe it will please you as well!

The nose begins with wheat grass and chopped chive before folding in peach, clover and honey. The palate runs toward melon, pear and green herbs, while the finish is dry, crisp and perfectly solid. As a whole, it's an easy, straightforward, mass-market cava that gets it more right than wrong.

Bright yellow gold appearance. Moderately full-bodied. Highly extracted. Tropical fruits, citrus, cream of tartar. Attractive tropical aromas lead a richly fruity style with a full, rounded palate that should have a wide appeal.

This one takes on an orange tint, and the aromas are akin to chocolate, spice cake and even some baked beans. The palate is quite crisp and healthy, with berry fruit, citrus and length. A good wine with a racy, cleansing feel. It's not spectacular but it ranks highly among similar competitors.

Codorníu makes a consistent rosé Cava from Pinot Noir. It's smoky and spicy, with cured meat aromas and a true earthy Pinot character. Flavors of orange are somewhat linear and monotone, but that one note is a good flavor, and a fresh and clean one as well.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Clear, straw yellow colour. Aroma: Unmistakable aromatic hints of Chardonnay gives this Cava very special and unique characteristics. Flavour: The balance between acidity and residual sugar give it an elegant, fruity and gentle taste, making it ideal for Brut lovers.

The Codorniu family started making wine in the 16th century and started producing cava in the late 19th. The Clasico uses the same blend of grapes used in its first Cava: Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada. It pairs well with nuts, dried fruits, and rice dishes.
