Château de Gironville Red Bordeaux Blend Haut-Médoc 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

This property has enjoyed a real renewal over the last 20 years. A Roman villa was originally located on the site before being replaced by a fort. This in turn was destroyed in the 17th century, to give way to the Château de GIRONVILLE, an estate with 155 hectares, of which 35 hectares of vines. Owned by Bordeaux’s Mayor Mr Duffour-Dubergier, who also owned Château Smith-Haut-Lafitte in the Graves region, Château de GIRONVILLE produced a wine classified as “Cru Bourgeois Supérieur”. Alas, in 1929, the vines were all dug up and pine trees replaced the vines… From 1987, the owners decided to resurrect the vineyard and planted 10 hectares of vines on deep gravely soils. Within a short timeframe, great wines were produced and Château de GIRONVILLE has obtained several medals since 1990. From 2004, Vincent Mulliez is the new owner of this property and pursues this renewal, at the expense of qualitative efforts and significant investments. Read less
