Chateau de Laville Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux 1998

Member Review by duncan 906:

This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/85406. Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux is an appellation for red, white, rose and sparkling wines [though 90% are red ] from the east bank of the river Garonne between thev City of Bordeaux and the small town of Cadillac. It became incorporated into the new Cotes de Bordeaux appellation in 2009 and the red wines are now labelled as Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux. My bottle comes from a well established producer and consists of 50% merlot, and 25% each of the two cabernets and was aged in oak barrels for 18 months.I started my bottle last night with my supper of lamb steak and I did enjoy it.There is plenty of a blackcurrant, plum and vanilla style fruit there and the tannins are soft but well integrated and structured. In short, this is a first class example of a what a good claret should be like It is not from a particularly fashionable appellation but offers good value for money.

Chateau de Laville [Capian]:
The property goes back to 1868 but Laurent and Nathalie Gappene took over in 1998. It is located about 15 miles south-east of Bordeaux city centre to the east of the Garonne river. It consists of 14 hectares and they produce a range of Bordeaux wines.
