Chateau de Pennautier Cabardes 2013

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in London [ www.nicolas.com ] for £10.It is from the Cabardes appellation. Cabardes is a small appellation created in 1999 for red and rose wines from an area just north of Carcasonne in southern France. Wines must be a blend and a minimum of 40% of the grapes used must be from the Atlantic or Bordeaux side [merlot, cabernet and malbec etc ] and a minimum of 40% from the south [syrah and grenache etc ] My bottle comes from the large family owned estate of Chateau de Pennautier. I started it last night with my supper of pasta bake and I did enjoy it.There is some blackcurrant and bramble style fruit there, the tannins were not intrusive but gave structure and there is some pepper or spice, especially on the finish. Overall, I would say this is a first class bottle of wine that would pair with most foods..
