Chateau de Sancerre Sancerre 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Chateau de Sancerre is the only castle in the Sancerre region. The Tours de Fiefs is the last remnant of the castle built in 1874. Production of Sancerre first began in the 11th century. In 1919, Louis-Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle (most famous for Grand Marnier) bought Chateau de Sancerre and renovated the Tours des Fiefs. Marnier-Lapostolle also expanded the surrounding vineyards and turned the out-buildings of the castle into a winery. In 1936, Sancerre was declared an AOC. Chateau de Sancerre is unique in that its vineyards span four different soil types allowing for the maximum expression of Sauvignon Blanc.

Château de Sancerre:
Château de Sancerre, built in the 10th century by the Count of Champagne, is the most prestigious property in Sancerre, and the only one that can use the Château de Sancerre name. Its sought-after hillside vineyards have been attached to the Château for centuries. The classic estate bottled wines exemplify Sancerre’s sophisticated minerality & bracing acidity.
