I bought three bottles of this wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/52357 for £31.50. Chateau Fleur Cardinale is a very prestigious estate of 24 hectares that was bought by Florence and Dominique Decoster in 2001.After investing a great deal of time, effort and money it was promoted to Grand Cru Classe in the contentious 2006 classification of Saint Emilion and then confirmed in 2012.It consists of 70%merlot,20% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon and is aged in oak barrels.I started a bottle last night with my dinner of lamb chops and I did enjoy it.There was plenty of blackcurrant and plum style fruit there and the tannins were soft and mellow. It was smooth and easy-drinking. This is one of the nicest Saint-Emilions I have tasted so I have given it high marks. I am not the only one to be impressed because the well-known wine critic Robert Parker gave the 2001 vintage 88 of his points.
