It was in the Middle-Age that monks introduced vine in the Médoc. Listrac's vineyard had a quick expansion thanks to the free trade policy implemented between Napoléon III and Queen Victoria. It was Jean-Jacques Lescoutra's great grand-father, Mr Ernest David, who experienced with Millardet, the famous Bordeaux Mixture ("bouillie bordelaise"), medecine against the "Mildiou". The Médoc has six local appellations : Listrac-Médoc, Margaux, Moulis, Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, plus the two appellations Médoc and Haut-Médoc. Thanks to its wines' typicity and fame, a decree of the 8th of June 1957 gave Listrac the local Médoc appellation. The distance of the river from the vineyards is an undeniable advantage as the grapes are protected from the fogs coming from the estuary, and as it favours a better sanitary state. CHATEAU FOURCAS-DUMONT, was originated from the union of the estates of Clos du Fourcas and Moulin du Bourg which are amongst the oldest vineyards of the village. It is located on the north of Listrac- Médoc. CHATEAU FOURCAS-DUMONT aims at producing a fine and elegant top-quality wine. Indeed, great efforts are being made regarding both the cultivation of the vineyard and the elaboration of the wine. Read less
