Château la Mission Haut Brion Pessac Leognan 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

"The purity in this wine is really mindblowing. So perfect. Licorice. Stone. Blackberry, blueberry. Full body. The power is amazing. But then it finishes etheral and so agile and beautiful. I am lost for words. This will rank with the best ever from here including 1975 and 1929. 58% merlot, 35% cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc." *100 pts. James Suckling* *Expected Arrival: Autumn 2018*

Château La Mission Haut-brion:
When the wine is young, the initial sensation is its unctuousness, the softness of a very ripe grape, the freshness of aromas and at the same time the texture of very special tanins. These meld with a trace of mineral in the wine. It is as if the land was in the glass, comprising notes of roasted coffee beans, cocoa and tobacco. This delicate bitterness is somewhat reminiscent of crystallized cherry-stones seeped in spirit. It is certainly a penchant for revealing all its qualities at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission and pleases a lot of tasters. It is also the consummate expression of the land of the Graves of Pessac. When maturing, this wine is still generous, openly proffering all its qualities. This hedonistic side is one of its most attractive particularities. Read less

Black currants and smoked chilies on the nose with some toast, gravel and floral notes – fairly big and ripe in the mouth with a bright, precise feel, tannins are firm but very unobtrusive, excellent length and purity on the finish with long red fruit tones and slightly herbaceous/chili echoes (91-92)

Smoky and a bit twiggy and stoney on the nose with red fruit and rust. This is curiously a touch sweet almost on entry the this turns firm and a bit mean for a moment before showing the ripe fruit of the nose again, vacillates between ripe fruit and fairly aggressive mineral notes, and while this is a touch lacking in substance it does promise to develop well if it gains some weight, which I expect it will. 89pts

A classic expression of tobacco and gravel over a very deep core of ripe, dark fruit greats the nose, Spicy and with a hint of camphor, a seductive nose. Opulent, ripe and chewy upon entry, zest and lively with lots of soft, ripe tannins, the fruit remains very crisp though continues to add layers, the long finish just echoes the flavors of the midpalte. While still very young this has the balance and intensity to age impeccably.

A soft nose with lots of band-aid and some camphor, lovely soft enry, well resolved and mouthfilling with just a touch of chewy soft tannin adding weight, good balance with rich red fruits, some menthol and tobacco on the moderately long finish, turns a bit dry and quite savory with air. A good choice for near term consumption.

also with noticably great color but no "THE CELLAR" sticker here. The nose starts out weed and herbaceous and not very promising at all, then some cool cassis, herbs, leather, and before long wonderful notes of black tea and a well used briar pipe. The entry is cool and poised, rich and integrated with very little obvious structure, a bit astingent but this rounds out, a bit simple in the mouth but still fresh and the nose is enough to gie it a bit of a lift.

Wood furniture and spice nose. Spice, orange peel on the palate. Light and elegant with great fruit. A top Pessac.

This unfolds on your palate with a oyster raspberry and stone character. It slowly opens and builds. Chewy yet polished. Reserved LMHB. James Suckling.

This white has more sauvignon blanc than normal: about two thirds instead of half. Full body with lots of fennel grapefruit apple and pineapple-skin character. Dense bright acidity. A round fruity white. James Suckling.

This has one of the best finishes of all reds in Bordeaux in 2013. Full and balanced with medium density in the mid-palate but it lasts for minutes on the finish. Tobacco currant and spice character. Only 13.1% alcohol. James Suckling.

The Haut Brion Blanc is a blend of 66% Sauvignon Blanc and 34% Semillon was picked two days earlier than the La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc. It has a mineral-driven bouquet perhaps more terroir-driven than the La Mission at this point in time. The palate is taut and fresh with crisp acidity impressive weight in the mouth and a genuine sense of tension towards the sherbet influenced finish. This ought to be divine after bottling. Tasted April 2014. Neal Martins Wine Journal.
