Château Mont-Pérat Red Bordeaux Blend Premières Côtes de Bordeaux 2003

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from a wine merchant in Sussex. Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux is an appellation for red, white, rose and sparkling wines [though 90% are red] from the east bank of the river Garonne between the City of Bordeaux and the small town of Cadillac. It became incorporated into the new Cotes de Bordeaux appellation in 2009 and the red wines are now labelled as Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux. My bottle comes from a well established producer and is mainly merlot although I do not know the exact cepagement. I started my bottle last night with my supper of cold meats and salad. At first I thought it a little tannic and astringent but after an hour or so it had smoothed and mellowed out somewhat and this surprised me considering over a dozen years of bottle age..There is some black cherry and blackcurrant style fruit with a suggestion of coffee or smoke. In short, this is an OK wine that went well with my supper
