Chateau Pey la Tour Reserve du Chateau 2015

Member Review by zufrieden:

The 2015 Reserve du Chateau Pey la Tour is another good value, good quality Bordeaux Superieur from Dourthe. Merlot dominates - as expected (88%) with the usual vibrant nose of cherries; colour is quite dark and brooding, with an entry that, with decanting, reveals plum and cherry and some residual tannin and oak. Rich are very Bordeaux. Leave open one hour before consumption. 89.

The 2010 Reserve du Chateau is a very good bottle of juice; the nose conjures up dried cherries and wet (black) earth, and the entry is very smooth with ample vanilla and tannin mid-palate. The flavour profile is dominated by cherry and perhaps some plum; finish is also quite long - although some stem intrudes - though not to great detriment of enjoyment. Much better than 2009. 88 points

Completely overwhelmed by the quality of this vineyard that dates back to the middle ages, Bordeaux entrepreneurs, Dourthe acquired the estate in 1990. For more than 25 years, a new viticultural approach was applied across the entire vineyard, respecting the terroir and vines in the quest for optimum fruit quality. The results have been superb, particularly in the outstanding 2010 vintage. This Réserve du Château is made from a selection of the best grapes on the estate. A blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot aged 12 - 14 months in oak barrels 1/3 new and partly aged on the lees. Wine Spectator called it "Ripe, fleshy and pure, with delicious plum, blackberry and black cherry pâte de fruit seamlessly layered, wrapped with suave espresso and roasted mesquite notes. There's juicy grip through the finish. Drink now through 2017." While Robert Parker said "From the large negociant firm of Dourthe, this excellent wine is sexy, with low acidity, very bright tannin and copious quantities of red and black fruits as well as hints of licorice, earth and camphor. Drink it over the next 3-4 years."
