The partners agreed in 2005 that a winery properly scaled and singularly focused on Col Solare would best realize the wine's extra-ordinary potential. They chose property on Red Mountain to build Col Solare, Italian for "shining hill." On April 12th, 2007, Col Solare celebrated its grand opening. The refined state-of-the-art winery was constructed from sustainable materials. Behind the dramatic 300 foot stone and concrete wall that emulates the basalt cliffs lining the valley, the winemaking cellar and adjoining "barri cai" enjoy the natural cooling temperature of the earth. Partnership: Col Solare is the partnership between two influential wine producers who are recognized leaders in their respective regions: Tuscany’s Marchesi Antinori and Washington State’s Chateau Ste. Michelle. Col Solare, Italian for “shining hill,” realizes the partners’ mission to unite two unique viticultural and winemaking cultures to produce an ultra-luxury, limited production Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain. Vintage: The 2015 vintage was one of the warmest growing seasons on record in Washington state. Warm temperatures continued through the spring and summer, moderating slightly into fall and extending an early harvest. Overall, 2015 saw optimal ripening across varieties and yielded outstanding wines throughout the region. Winemaker’s notes: This 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of black cherry, berry and dark chocolate that fuse with smooth notes of vanilla and spice. Rich and balanced on the palate, this wine finishes with long lingering flavors of cocoa, black fruits and anise. – Darel Allwine, Winemaker Vineyards: 53% Shaw/Quintessence Vineyard 29% Col Solare Estate Vineyard 11% Corliss Red Mountain Vineyard 5% Kiona Heart of the Hill Vineyard 2% Klipsun Vineyard Barrel Aging: 100% new French oak 21 months Alcohol: 14.5% PH: 3.88 TA: 0.58g/100ml
