Domaine Bernard Moreau Bourgogne Rouge 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

5% of new wood is used for the Bourgogne Rouge - we try to make something which reeks of Pinot.

I had a glass of this last night with some cheese and nuts and felt it was ok with the food. A bit thin and vinagary. Later on in the evening I had some more without any food and liked it even less...not much complexity and too tart and thin, but not horrible.

Got some mocha, red fruit & earth on the nose. Good tannin & mushroom on the finish. Great with some burger, hot dogs & seafood w/ red sauce.

Bernard Moreau is a grower based in the village of Mancey in the northern Maconnais, close to the Cote Chalonnaise. This Bourgogne Rouge is, of course, entirely Pinot Noir and is grown in a single vineyard of thin limestone known as Les Cras. The grapes are hand-harvested, sorted and de-stemmed. The fruit is given a 5-day "cold soak". Fermented in tank, the wine is then transferred into new barrels (10% new) for aging for 7 months. his enticing red Burgundy shows off the silky, perfumed aspects of Pinot Noir- it is a joy to drink.
