Domaine de la Reynardiere Muscat Vin de Pays Cotes de Thongue 1998

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £ from the website www.cellartrade.co.uk.Vin de Pays Cotes de Thongue is a designation, not a full appellation, created in 1982 for red, rose, white and sparkling wines from 23 communes around Beziers in the Thongue river valley in the south-west of the Herault Department.Vin de Pays is now termed IGP.Some of the 23 communes are also part of the Faugeres and Languedoc appellations but the IGP is for wines not made to the specifications of those appellations. My bottle is from a well established family concern and is 100% muscat aged in stainless steel tanks. The muscat family of over 200 grape varieties can be traced back to antiquity.I started my bottle last night with a plate of bread and cheese. The wine is a deep amber, almost brown, colour. It is sweet like honey and there is a lychee style fruit with floral notes and a bitter finish..In short, this is a nice but unusual wine that went well with the cheese
