Domaine de la Source Bellet 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £25 from a shop in Wiltshire [www.yapp/co.uk] Bellet is an appellation created in 1941,although viticulture here is thought to go back to the Phoenicians in 2000BC,for red, rose and white wines from steep and often terraced south facing slopes behind and to the west of the City of Nice on the French Riviera east of the River Var.Domaine de la Surce is a small familyowned producer here.My bottle consists of 40% braquet.a grape native to this area but called brachette on the other side of the Italian border in Piedmont,40% folle noir, another local grape and 20% grenache. I started the bottle last night with my baked chicken breast supper. This is definitely a full bodied red wine and there is plenty of an intense blakcurrant, blackberry and blueberry style fruit with some spice and pepper on the finish and soft tannins. In short, there is no shortage of flavours and it was an excellent accompaniment to my chicken

Domaine de la Source:
Joseph Dalmasso bought a small farm in 1962 named after a spring or stream ['La Source'] on the land. Later his son Jacques took over and planted the first vines in 1986.The estate is now run by Jacque's  son Eric and wife Carine. There are only 5 hectares under vine but a  range of red, rose and white Bellet wines are produced  as well as olive oil, flowers and vegetables
