Domaine Drouhin Oregon Laurène Or Domaine Drouhin Oregon 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

All of Domaine Drouhin Oregon's (DDO's) Pinot Noir is handpicked into 25-pound totes, then hand sorted & de-stemmed at their four-level gravity flow winery. Fermentations are long & careful. By the middle of November, all oftheir wine was safely in barrel. They use approximately 20% new oak with their Pinot Noir, which allows the character of the wine & vintage to show through. Barrels are custom made for them in Burgundy, using oak from France's best forests. Their goal is to produce Pinot Noirs with balance, elegance & finesse. From their earliest days in barrel, the 2005 Pinot Noirs have been deep, dense wines. In contrast to the more delicate 2004, the 2005 is built on larger shoulders, with a strong backbone that will certainly reward with extended aging. Pinot Noir's more delicate heart beats beneath, but for now the 2005 is true to the vintage. Of course, one can happily enjoy the wine now with its expressive nose of lilac and violet blossoms, and a wild array of red and black fruits, white pepper, clove and orange peel. The body is rich and the finish long and silky, suggesting a minimum aging of 7 to 10 years.

Domaine Drouhin has been on the viticultural cutting edge in Oregon since our first plantings, and we continue to set the pace. The 90 acres of hillside vineyards that ribbon our 225-acre estate are at the very heart of Domaine Drouhin wines. Philippe Drouhin is in charge of all of the estate vineyards in Oregon & Burgundy & it is his vision & passion that drives our advances & improvements in winegrowing year after year. Situated atop the Dundee Hills, between 400 and 800 feet in elevation, our site was selected for its remarkable similarity in climate, latitude and aspect to the legendary vineyards of Burgundy. DDO places more emphasis on viticulture than most producers in America. Our vines are perhaps the most densely-planted in the New World, with an average of 3,300 plants to the acre. We are also one of the few vineyards in the country to cultivate our own rootstocks and propagate all of our own plant materials. This allows us to further our vineyards with site specific rootstocks and plants. Read less
