Domaine les Hauts de Mercurol Crozes-Hermitage 2017

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of winefrom a shop in Berkshire [www.peterosbournewine.co.uk] for £15.Crozes-Hermitage is an appellation created in 1937,although viticulture here goes back centuries, for red and white wines from 11 communes north of Tain-Hermitage on the east bank of the Rhone river. It is much larger though less prestigious than the Hermitage appellation which has a terroir more suited to viticulture.90% of Crozes-Hermitage is red but my bottle is a white made of 100% marsanne grape from a small plot at Domaine Les Hauts de Mercurol.I started the bottle last night with my supper of baked fish.It is a very dry wine with a sour [though not unpleasantly so] pear and almond style fruit with some citrus notes. It is not particularly fruity and could be described as mineral. In short it was a good match for my fish supper

Domaine Les Hauts de Mercurol:
This domaine was bought in 2003 by the Cheron family who were well established as Burgundy winemakers but who have now bought several estates in the Rhone valley as well. This one has 7 hectares and produces mainly red Croxes-Hermitage wines but also a little white
