Ernie-Els Wines Proprietor's Blend 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Shiraz, 6% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot Jellied black fruits, mint, tomato leaf, black currants, spicy oak, and raw beef greet the nose here. It’s a lovely nose, a bit subtle perhaps, but with great complexity. Focused and almost silky with its seamless balance. This is a delightful wine in the mouth. There’s a streak of oak that, like on the nose, pops out when you don't expect it, but otherwise this is dominated by a fine balance of fruit. The Cabernet dominates with juicy black currant fruit and some touches of black cherry but there are also hints of juniper, raspberry and blueberries adding their voice here. Already drinking well, this should be even better in a year or so when it should be seamless and lush, allowing more inky, nutty nuance to contribute on the palate. Today this is slightly raw on the modest finish. A decidedly modern wine but well done in its style. 89pts
