Estancia Merlot Central Coast 2014

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Soft plummy fruit greets the nose along with well integrated vanilla and carob notes, topped with a hint of dried herb. Creamy and soft on entry, this is a rich, plush wine with lots of wild cherry, black berry and black plum flavors in the mouth that are supported nicely by fairly well integrated oak. There’s plenty of tannin here but it remains well covered by the rich fruit, which extends out on the moderately long finish. 87pts

Purple color. Violets on the nose, sweet on tip of tongue, smooth mouth feel & ends with a slight tug on the palate for a ever so slightly dry finish. A nice merlot if you want a wine that has more nose & a light body with some dryness and get tired of the ultra juicy lip smackers... Good. Fun interplay with that first sugar/acid up front & dryness on back. Complex.

One of the best in its class, simple but pleasant and very clean & smooth finish. Every time I buy another $12-15 red and I am unsatisfied I wish I bought this one instead.

Scents of smoky berry, wood, and a touch of licorice. Has a dry start, flavor of tangy cherries. A very dry and long, warm finish.

Medium red color; Aromas of berries (strawberries); Light-body; Taste is light fruit. Still tasting...

Modest in scale, but appealing for its black cherry, herb and spice notes. Drink now through 2014.

The nose of this California red is packed with aromas of ripe cherry and plum with subtle hints of mocha. Plum, cherry and raspberry give this wine its distinguished character. A round, soft and full mouthfeel is followed by a long finish with overtones of sweet oak and chocolate.

Merlot has become an American favorite for a reason. Smooth tannins, full fruit, and luscious juiciness create a wine that can be appreciated by just about everyone.

Balanced with bright fruitiness, opulent tannins and light, toasty oak. Bright cherry and plum aromas with a hint of spice. Dark dense black berry and cherry with light toasty oak. Spicy, fleshy with a supple long finish.

A ripe, juicy style, with black cherry and blackberry fruit thatrsquo;s rich and supple. Mildly tannic. A good value. Drink now through 2006.

Balances rich, complex flavors with fruitiness of cherries and plums. Spicy oak and a toasty character add depth while the silky tannins impart an elegant structure.

Estancia blends premium proprietor-grown grapes from their vineyards on Californiarsquo;s Central Coast for a deliciously complex and approachable Merlot. The estate in Montereyrsquo;s cooler-climate yields Merlot with concentration, deep color and structure while the vineyards in Paso Roblesrsquo; warmer climate contribute fruity berry characteristics and a full, supple mouthfeel.
