Faiveley Pommard Premier Cru les Rugiens Pinot Noir Wine 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Faiveley Pommard "Les Rugiens" 1er Cru 2012 is 100% Pinot Noir that was harvested by hand, fermented in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats and aged for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels. This red Burgundy offers concentrated fruit, earth and mineral character with good structure and a long finish."Good bright red. Redcurrant, minerals and sweet oak on the reticent nose. Chewy and intense on the palate, with an impression of strong extract to the cherry liqueur and saline flavors. Nicely concentrated, long and aromatic, with suave tannins and no evidence of hail." *-Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (91-94 Points)*"An elegant and pure nose speaks of essence of red berries along with hints of violet, plum and soft earth nuances. There is evident minerality to the detailed and highly energetic middle weight flavors that also display noticeable astringency on the otherwise moderately persistent finish. A wine to drink young." *-Burghound*

A fresh cool and restrained nose of surpassing elegance displays airy red berry fruit in particular raspberry and currant. Interestingly for a Rugiens this is almost delicate on the mid-palate but there is excellent power and plenty of underlying tension to the very firmly structured linear and somewhat strict if wonderfully persistent and impeccably well-balanced finish. I wouldn t buy this unless you expressly intend to cellar it for at least a decade. - Comments: Outstanding Burghound.
