Carpineto takes its name from the Greek, carpos, meaning fruit. Founded in 1967 Carpineto quickly developed an international, award-winning reputation for consistently elegant wines. Carpineto began by producing a world-class Chianti Classico, and has expanded to include three additional properties in Tuscany's most prestigious appellations Montepulciano, Montalcino, and San Gimignano – with over 1,000 acres of land under vine. This Super Tuscan is one of their best. Grapes for Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from their hillside vineyards in Montalcino and in Chianti Classico. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in stainless steel and then aged 12 months in French and American oak barrels. The wine is then bottle aged for an additional 8 months letting the flavors mesh and the tannins soften.

Very typical "dusty" Cabernet nose, not very complex. In the mouth nearly no fruit very hard tannins. There is still a feeling of the quality thisd wine once had, but the fruit already disappered. Still good to go with your best steak, but no solo wine any more.

We tried this bottle while visiting NY from CA at the recommendation of the waiter. We were looking for a big bold red similar to a big Napa Cabernet. It was very very good and definately held its own. At a price point of only $25-30 it is excellent and I have ordered a few more for home.

The smooth palate delivers black cherry, grilled herb and exotic spice alongside polished tannins." The Wine Spectator also scored it 90. They said Rich and laced with black currant, black cherry, cedar, sage and tobacco aromas and flavors. All the components are in the right place. Though approachable now, this will be better in a year or two. Drink now through 2020."

Carpineto was founded in 1967 by Antonio Zaccheo and Giovanni Sacchet and farms 424 hectares of land spread over four estates among Tuscany’s most prestigious appellations. The original aim of the producers - to produce modern, world-class red wine from the top Tuscan appellations has been admirably fulfilled. Pioneers of internationalism of Tuscany, the Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon is a great example of this ethos of action. Carpineto has been named IWSC Italian Wine Producer Of The Year and was the first ever Italian winery ever to win the IWSC International Winemaker Of The Year Trophy. Antonio Zaccheo is now aided by his son Antonio and daughter Francesca. Giovanni Sacchet’s daughter, Caterina, has recently joined the Carpineto winemaking team after finishing her viticulture and oenology degree.
