Fontodi Flaccianello, A Tuscan Super-Star! The last 5 years of Flaccianello averaged 96 points from the Spectator. The 2009 has not yet been reviewed. Named by Wine Spectator as their most highly scored wine of the year, the 2006 Fontodi Flaccianello, earned 99 points. Rated as #8 on Wine Spectators Top 100 Wines of 2009. Flaccianello is pure Sangiovese produced from vines more than 30 years old, grown in the hillside vineyard of Flaccianello, near the town of Panzano in the Chianti Classico region. The Manetti family has owned this historic estate since 1968. Every bottle of Flaccianello will have slightly different flavor profiles, but the common characteristics are: full bodied, velvet smooth tannins, dried ripe red cherries, spices and a forest bouquet. Fontodi values purity and sustainability, all Fontodi wines are organic. All bottles are in wood cases

The first impression of this red is purity and finesse, as black currant, raspberry and violet aromas and flavors stay focused and persistent. The 2009 Flaccianello della Pieve is a bit of a shock to the palate after 20+ older vintages. Still, it is impossible to miss the wine's striking purity and finesse. Today the 2009 is a bit of a brute, but it should mellow out over the next 5-7 years... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
