Frog's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Crafted in the most traditional and natural ways, the 2005 Frog's Leap CabernetSauvignon delivers a soft texture, ripe fruit and a deep connection to its soils - all with an alcohol level below 14%. Aromas of currant and blackberry combine with a warm spice tone right out of the glass. Flavors of dried black fruits pick up on the palate with added, subtle touches of cedar, leather and a hint of black olive. The wine’s resolved tannins and integrated oak allow for a mouth-feel that is soft yet lean with a long finish that is carried by the bright, natural acid of the fruit.

Well-proportioned, with a mix of earthy currant, wild berry and black cherry fruit that's well-centered, elegant and complex, with the earthy, herbal flavors returning on the finish. Drink now through 2009. 10,500 cases made.

This age worthy Cabernet Sauvignon shows dark fruits, coffee, dark chocolate and cream on the nose. On the palate, more of the same with minerals and tobacco to boot. This extracted Cabernet has chewy tannins and will be great after cellaring.

Frogs Leap Winery is one of the original Napa Valley cult wines. Started by Larry Turley and John Williams in the early 1980s, when Williams was winemaking at Spring Mountain Vineyards. Production was tiny and demand was high. The pair went their separate ways in 1994 with Williams taking Frog’s Leap to a new facility, but with the same commitment and to organic and sustainable farming. All of his vineyards are dry-farmed organic, yielding full flavors and perfect balance in the fruit. Named a Top 100 Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2008, clearly they’re doing it right. This wine is actually very rare. It's their flagship Cab, sourced entirely from the Rutherford District and less that 1,000 cases (12 bottle) were produced. A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, aged 24 months in French oak. Wine Enthusiast Magazine rated it 93 points saying “A gorgeous Cab, lush and soft and delicious. Shows a New World, cult winemaking sensibility, with superripe fruit and melted tannins framing blackberry and cherry pie, cassis, dark chocolate, anise and cedar flavors. Should age for the next ten years.” Limited! This item excluded from any other discounts or offers beyond the 15% case discount.
