The topographical structure, quality of the soil and climate, make the mountains of the Galilee an ideal location for growing vineyards with grapes of the highest quality. Golan Heights Winery had long been aware of the region's premium qualities and consequently began planting vineyards in the Kadesh Valley as early as 1995 jointly with Kibbutz Malkiya and Kibbutz Yiftach. In 1997, the first vineyard was planted in Kibbutz Yiron and at the same time the kibbutz decided to establish a winery amidst the natural landscape surrounding it. Read less

Yiron is considered as the best value for money of Israeli wines, and this one (2005) definitely the best ever for Yiron (better than the 2003).

The higher elevations of the Upper Galilee are considered the best wine growing areas in Israel. This Bordeaux is aged for sixteen months in small French oak barrels. When stored horizontally in a cool, dark place, this wine should age well over 5 - 7 years. Still muscular tannins that need time to subside and integrate an abundance of black currant, cassis, berry fruits, yet well-balanced wood with a long, mouth-filling finish. This deep red, medium to full bodied, wine is an alluring blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The aromas & flavors include plum, black cherry, dark chocolate and dried herbs all with a common setting of vanilla & oak.

Tasting Note: Abundant aromas of wild berry, cherry and plum jam on a background of seasoned characters of vanilla, cloves and toasted oak; full-bodied and well balanced; long, classic finish. Serving Suggestions: Best served as a complement to richly flavored meat dishes like seasoned leg of lamb, broiled sirloin or osso buco.
