Goulée Red Bordeaux Blend Médoc 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

"...Representing a fairly priced introduction to a classic Medoc, this complex Bordeaux is loaded with fruit. Chocolate, black currant, smoke, and earth characteristics emerge from this lovely, fleshy 2005. It possesses more structure and firmness than the 2003, and should drink beautifully for 10-12 years..87-89" WA 5/07.-"Proprietor Michel Reybrie and his winemaker, Jean-Guillaume Prats, have fashioned a brilliant blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. The dark purple-hued 2005 reveals a sumptuous bouquet of licorice, black currants, black olives, smoke, and damp earth. Fleshy and supple-textured with good tannin as well as decent acidity, this seriously-endowed, complex effort can be consumed over the next 12-14 years...89" -WA 04/08

Eye - Wine of an intense ruby colour, with the green glints of youth. Nevertheless, the gradation seems mauve then pink at the very edge of the glass, confirming development. The colour is lively and shiny. It is opaque in its density in the middle of the glass. It presents a good concentration under its visual aspect.Nose - On the nose the aromatic frame tells us of depth and distinction. It gives off notes of black and red fruits, cherries, blackcurrants, raspberries and blueberries. Next come aromas gained in the ageing process, toasty, smoky, pepper, vanilla, and cinnamon. These are found within the fruity scents. As aeration goes on, the wine gains strength. Hints of violets and liquorice are added. This is a wine with a virile frame and with fairly strong character.Palate - On the palate, the first impression in soft and velvety. The fruity frame quickly makes for a structure which is more closely related to the appellation. The acidity is refreshing with minty flavours and the tannins bring a serious frame and some character to the wine. The finish is liquoricey. It seems that the Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the palate. The wine is pleasant with its pungent side. Its length indicates good potential for ageing.

the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 exhibits beautiful aromas of creme de cassis, chocolate, and hints of earth, smoke, and spice. Displaying sweet tannin, a fleshy, medium-bodied, opulent style, and impressive purity as well as length
