The Cotes of Altenberg and Kanzlerberg
It was this passion that drove Charles Lorentz senior to bank on it's excellence, in developing his vineyard on the slopes of the Altenburg near Bergheim. The grapes grown in this exceptional terroir have always been vinified separately. Riesling, Pinot-Gris, Gewurztraminer and other Muscats that originate on these slopes demonstrate from vintage to vintage, a unique character.
This obstinate perseverance resulted in the awarding of the supreme accolade "Grand Cru" in 1983.
The second "Grand Cru" of the domain, smaller in area, is the Kanzlerberg.
