Heron Hill 'Semi Dry' Riesling 2017

External Review:

Fresh fruit aromas like ripe yellow peach and cantaloupe are followed by a hint of Iris flower. Our most popular Riesling, this wine, which is sourced from many different vineyards, combines the flavors expressed by the Finger Lakes Region. The sweetness comes first, followed by refreshing acidity which lasts through a long finish.

Sweet peach and melon flavors dominate the nose and become round in the mouth. Acidity balances at the end for a smooth finish. Chill for enjoyment with appetizers or spicy dishes, or on its own.

On a recent tour of the Finger Lakes wineries, I discovered that New York's cool climate produces some world class Rieslings. This is one of my favorites among many. It exhibits a nice balance of sweetness and acidity with rich tropical fruit flavors. Clean and refreshing, this wine is a perfect complement to lighter entrées and fruit salads.

Heron Hill's Finger Lakes Semi-Dry is delightfully fresh. This classic Riesling has overtones of honey and apricot. Soft and ripe, this wine offers a nice range of fruit flavors that linger crisply on a fresh finish.

Heron Hill's new winemaker, Thomas Laszlo, is obsessed with purity of flavor for his Riesling. Unlike winemakers from more famous European wine areas, he refuses to chaptalize his wine. Thomas's first offering, Heron Hill's 2002 Semi-Dry, shows a touch of sweetness with nuances of honey and apricot. Soft and ripe, this wine offers a fine array of fruit flavors that linger through the crisp finish.

Good straightforward apple and fig notes are backed by a hint of slate on the finish.
