Dry all acid and tanins no good flavors with a thin finish.

Light, with pretty cherry, tobacco and loamy earth aromas and flavors that linger effectively on the refined finish.

Simple, clean and rounded out with balanced acids and just enough flesh to fill the mid-palate. It's a fair value at this price. A hint of herb and green bean in the finish.

Hogue is back as a value player. This is a fine effort, ripe enough to avoid the greenies, and showing some detail and cut to the tannins. Therersquo;s nothing wimpy here; itrsquo;s got some chewy red fruits backed with earthy tannins, acids proportionate, and a finish thatrsquo;s under 14% alcohol.

Bright and focused, this is on the lighter side, with a light burr of tannins around an airy core of berry and coffee flavors. Drink now through 2011.

As always, this is very young, fresh and jammy. Blatant acids push black-cherry marmalade flavors that are dry and rich. Has some real depth; a rich, creamy wine that makes up in power what it lacks in finesse.

High-toned purple fruit and bittersweet chocolate tannins give this some density, then the wine ends light, in a whiff of black smoke. An easy everyday red.

This is the first time Hogue has made a varietally designated Merlot for their budget line, and it's a solid effort. Sweet, pretty fruit is played against tart tannins, with just a hint of cinnamon and mocha spice. Good for the price.
