J Wine Company Sparkling 2002

External Review by Salute! Wine Market:

The 2002 J Brut exudes enticing aromas of Asian pears, nectarines, lime zest, and light honeydew melon in its initial aromas. The pear and lime notes follow through in the mouth with a mix of honeysuckle and vanilla cream flavors that lead to a lengthy finish highlighted with a hint of ginger. This wine will pair nicely with light summertime brunches as well as elegant dinner fare.Harvest: August 15 - August 27, 2002Final Analysis: Alcohol 12.5% by volumeFinal Blend:49% Chardonnay 49% Pinot Noir 2% Pinot Meunier100 % Russian River Valley, Sonoma County20,000 cases produced

In 1986, Judy Jordan founded J Vineyards & Winery in order to craft the varietal and sparkling wines that have since become the essence of Russian River Valley expression. This viticultural area runs west through Sonoma County, following the river as it winds around rolling hills and through rich benchlands before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. The region's unique topography creates a rich diversity of soils, and the cool coastal climate prolongs the growing season, making it one of only a few places on earth ideal for producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Other varietals thrive here, too. George Bursick, our winemaker, uses a combination of traditional and innovative winemaking techniques to craft Pinot Gris, Viognier and Vin Gris in true Russian River Valley style. In addition to our varietal wines, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay have served as the base of our critically-acclaimed sparkling wines for 20 years now. We are dedicated to creating sparkling wines in the traditional method of Champagne, or mêthode champenoise. This labor-intensive philosophy results in sparkling wines of incredible depth, complexity and dazzling effervescence. Read less

Vintage: 2001 11/12/2010

Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. Year in and year out, the J Vintage Brut impresses for its refinement, its sophistication, its nuance and its depth. But, it is a kind of depth that is carried by a light-touch, a fine hand, an elegance that is both incredibly rare and entirely enjoyable. Its clean, brisk, lemon and brioche aromas lead to a mouthful of small bubbles and to flavors that are crackling with citrusy fruit and enriched by a layer of toasty, aged yeasts. This is seriously good sparkling wine for every grand occasion.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
