Jean Bourdy Cotes du Jura Rouge 2009

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £12.50 from a shop in London [ www.winesensations.co.uk ] The Cotes du Jura is an appellation created in 1937 for red, white, rose and sparkling wines from 105 communes between Burgundy and the Swiss border,an area known as Franche-Comte. Jean Bourdy is a well established family concern operating in this area.My bottle is made up of a blend of a third each of three grapes;pinot noir.ploussard and trousseau, the latter two being grapes native to this part of France and the wine spent four years in old oak barrels.I started my bottle last night with my supper of bacon, mushrooms and pasta There is plenty of a raspberry, strawberry and redcurrant style fruit and the tannins give sufficient structure without being intrusive. This is a subtle and delicate wine to be savoured sip by sip and I think it of high quality and similar to one of the better Burgundies..

Jean Bourdy:
The Bourdy family have been making wine around the village of Arlay in the Jura region since at least 1475 making it one of the oldest operating wineries in the world. It is now run by brothers Jean-Franscois and Jean-Philippe.Not surprisingly it is a domaine steeped in tradition although it has been biodynamic since 2005. There are 10 hectares under vine and a range of red, white and sparkling Jura wines are produced.
